VOLUME-XIX BREVABD, NORTH CAROLINA. FRIDAY. JUNE 19. 1914. NUMBER-^5 BREVARD INSTITUTE NOTES. The Snninier School is in its second week of the Ression. Thirty six are on the roll not counting those who droppod out after a day or two. Those who are planning to tcttch are doing regular institute work ; others are taking vocational academic work as they prefer. There arc instructors enough to give any course for which there is a reasonable demand. Qaite a number of students aro taking commercial branches and domostic Hrt, and a class is being organiz;;d in expression. Mrs. J. B. Clayton gave an ex pression rccital in the Institute Chapel, Tuesday evening of this week. She is thoughly trained as an elocutionist and has a largo se lection of pieces which she gives. Her attractive ])orsonality and her intense love for her work enable lier to inspire others with her en thusiasm. At the close of the recital refreshments wore S'crved by the lady trachors. The evening Was wry enjoyable to all w-ho were present. Mr. Bli’.m nud his assistants are rejoicing over the continuation of th« excellent faruiing wmther. They are ofKVating Mnj. Breese’s RECEPTION AT MANSE. ' A very enjoyble affair was the reception given Monday afternoon and night at the “Manse” by Rev. and Mrs. E. H. Norwood to his congregation and their friends. The delightful occasion was tho anniversary of their marriage and of Mr. Nor .vood’s pastorate and birthday. The home was tastily decorated in beautiful cut flowers and plants. The hostess was graciously assisted by Mrs. M. M. King and others who presided at the pnnch bowl, and a bovy of young ladies who served the delicious punch and cake. A number of musical selections were rendered, among them piano eolos by Miss Margrct Blythe, Mrr. Edmond Woodbridge, and Mi.ss Blair, violin and jjiano selocticns by Miss Bliiir and A. B. Riioy; vocal solos sung by Miss Allio Can trell, Miss Allio Bailie Cloud, and Miss Rosa Lluye. Mr. and Mi’s. Norwood were the recipients of sever til lovely pieces of cut glass as the anniversary was the crystal wedding. Verna Goodo, seventh and eighth grades ; Miss Doris Edwards, fifth and sixth grades ; Mit-s Frances Mc Intosh, third and fourth grades; Miss Georgia Bell, second grade; Miss Irene Montgomery, first grade ; Miss Allie Cantrell, substi tute. Mr. Bridges, Miss Goode, Miss Edwards and Miss McIntosh have signified their acceptance. Besides tidying up the; school rooms, the workers did much to clean up and beautify the cemetery grounds. Superintendent Henderson went dow’n from Brevaird, and besides lending his official inspiration to the workers lent his muscle to the work.
